9 issues about homework and teacher thoughts on each (#LeadLAP)

Does homework have a place in schools? What are the issues around it? Educators weighed in during a #LeadLAP Twitter chat.

Homework is such a difficult topic to discuss. Everyone seems to have an opinion on it. Sometimes, we think we disagree on something and it turns out we’re talking about completely different things.

Few people have positive memories or remember solid successes from doing homework, but it’s still widespread in schools.

Does homework still have a place?

Alice Keeler and I wanted to push that conversation forward when we wrote the book Ditch That Homework. Its goal: provide eight strategies for reducing reliance on homework until, hopefully, we can ditch it completely.

To continue that conversation, Alice and I moderated the Lead Like a PIRATE (#LeadLAP) Twitter chat. Lead Like a PIRATE encourages school leadership from all positions in the building, and a wide variety of educators joined us!

Below is a curated collection of tweets from the chat …

If you’d like to get in on the next #LeadLAP chat, it’s hosted on Saturday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Eastern / 9:30 p.m. Central / 8:30 p.m. Mountain / 7:30 p.m. Pacific. It’s led by Shelley Burgess (@burgess_shelley) and Beth Houf (@BethHouf), authors of the Lead Like a PIRATE book.
